Terms of Service
Last updated October 26, 2026
Welcome to The Portal Professor (the “Site”). These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and The Portal Professor (“we,” “us”). By using the Site, creating an account, or submitting a review, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Site Guidelines, which are part of them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.
1. What the Site is
The Portal Professor is an online platform where current and former college athletes share their personal opinions and experiences about the coaches they have played for, so other athletes can make informed decisions. Anyone can see a coach’s overall score. Category scores and written reviews are available with a paid pass or subscription, or through a free-access period earned by submitting a verified review.
We are an independent site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any school, athletic program, conference, athletics department, or the NCAA. School names, team names, and logos belong to their owners and appear here only to identify the schools and programs that reviews are about.
2. Reviews are opinions of users, not statements by us
Everything in a review is the opinion and personal experience of the user who wrote it. Reviews and scores are not statements of fact by us, and they are not our views. We do not write, edit, or endorse reviews, and we do not guarantee that any review is accurate, complete, or current. A coach’s score is a simple average of verified player ratings, and those ratings are subjective by nature. Do not treat anything on the Site as professional, legal, or career advice, and use your own judgment before making decisions about your eligibility, your education, or your future.
The coaching staff listings come from publicly available sources such as official athletics websites and from user suggestions. Staffs change constantly, so listings may be out of date or contain mistakes. You can tell us about a problem using the “Something missing or wrong?” button on any school page.
3. Our role as a platform
We provide a platform for content created by others. To the fullest extent permitted by law, including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230), we are not the publisher or speaker of user content, and we are not responsible for it. We are not required to monitor or pre-screen content, but we may review, decline, or remove content at any time and for any reason, including when it breaks these Terms or our Site Guidelines. Choosing to remove some content does not mean we are responsible for content we leave up.
4. Accounts
You need an account to submit a review or buy access. You must be at least 13 years old, and if you are under the age of majority where you live you need a parent or guardian’s permission. You are responsible for the information you provide and for keeping access to your email secure. Sign-in links are sent to your email, so anyone who controls your email can sign in as you. You may not share, sell, or transfer your account.
5. Your reviews and the standards they must meet
By submitting a review, you promise that:
- you are a current or former player, and the review reflects your own firsthand experience with that coach;
- the review is truthful and is your honest opinion, and any statement of fact in it is true;
- it contains no threats, harassment, hate speech, or slurs, and no accusations of crimes or serious misconduct that you cannot stand behind from your own direct knowledge;
- it does not reveal someone else’s private information, such as medical, family, or financial details;
- it does not infringe anyone’s rights, including copyright, and does not contain anything you do not have the right to post;
- you are not submitting it on behalf of, or at the direction of, a competing program, agent, recruiter, or anyone else with a financial or personal interest in the result, and you have not been paid or promised anything for it.
You are limited to one review per coach per school. Fake, duplicated, coordinated, or purchased reviews will be removed, and the accounts behind them may be banned. We decide which reviews count toward a score. Anyone can report a review using the Report link on it.
License to us. You keep ownership of what you write. By submitting a review, you grant us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it on and in connection with the Site and to use it to calculate scores. You understand that reviews are visible to the public and that others may see and quote them.
6. Verification and your identity
To keep fake reviews out, a review counts only after we verify it. We ask for your full name, school, team, seasons played, and an email address. We use this to confirm you really played for the program, by confirming control of your email, comparing your details against a public team roster where we can, and manual review by site staff when we cannot.
Your reviews are anonymous to the public. We never show your name, school, email, or seasons next to a review, and we do not share this information with coaches, schools, or other users. We do not sell it, and we keep it encrypted. Please read our Privacy Policy for the details, including the limited situations where the law can require us to disclose information. Because of that, we do not promise that your identity can never be revealed under any circumstances.
7. Complaints and removal requests
If you are a coach, school, or authorized representative, or anyone else, and you believe a review breaks these Terms or our Site Guidelines, email support@theportalprofessor.com with a link to the review, which statement you object to, and why. We review reports in good faith and may remove or limit content that breaks our rules, for example content that contains threats, private information, or a serious factual claim that appears to be unsupported. We do not remove a review simply because it is critical, negative, or unflattering, and we do not take sides in disputes between users and the people they review. We do not disclose who wrote a review in response to a complaint.
Copyright. If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice to the same email address that identifies the work, the location of the material, your contact information, a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We may remove content in response to valid notices and may end the accounts of repeat infringers.
8. Paid access and free access
- Passes: a 90-day pass is $9.99, a 6-month pass is $19.99, and a 1-year pass is $24.99. Each is a one-time payment that unlocks full reports for that long from purchase (added to any access time you already have). Passes do not renew automatically and there is nothing to cancel.
- Free access: a verified review earns a free access period (currently 30 days). This is granted once per person, only after your review is verified, and can be withdrawn if the review is found to be fake.
Payments are processed by Stripe, and we never see or store your card number. Passes and subscription payments are generally non-refundable, but if something went wrong with your purchase, email us and we will make it right. Prices may change for future purchases. Paid access is for your personal use only.
9. Acceptable use
Don’t scrape, copy in bulk, resell, or republish the Site’s reports or data; share your account; use the Site to harass, threaten, or defame anyone; try to find out who wrote a review; post spam or promotional content; or try to break, overload, or get around our verification, paywall, or security. We can suspend or end accounts that do, without notice.
10. Our content and trademarks
The Site’s design, name, logo, software, scores, and compiled data belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. These Terms give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Third-party names and logos remain the property of their owners.
11. Disclaimers
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ON IT, INCLUDING REVIEWS AND SCORES, ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, AND WE MAKE NO PROMISE ABOUT ANY COACH, PROGRAM, OR OUTCOME.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OWNERS, OFFICERS, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, OPPORTUNITIES, OR DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR FROM ANY CONTENT ON IT, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND $50. SOME PLACES DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITS, SO THEY APPLY ONLY TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS.
13. Your responsibility for what you post
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from content you submit, your use of the Site, or your violation of these Terms or anyone’s rights.
14. Disputes
Please contact us first at support@theportalprofessor.com; most issues can be resolved informally. If we can’t resolve a dispute within 30 days, you and we agree to resolve it through binding individual arbitration instead of in court, except that either side may bring an individual claim in small claims court and either side may seek a court order to stop misuse of intellectual property. You and we each waive the right to a jury trial and to bring or take part in a class or representative action. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing us. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that goes to court will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.
15. General
We may suspend or end your access at any time. We may update these Terms; if we make an important change we will update the date above, and continuing to use the Site after that means you accept the new Terms. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Site Guidelines, are our entire agreement with you about the Site. We may transfer our rights under these Terms, for example if the business is reorganized or sold. Questions and reports: support@theportalprofessor.com.
